Surgery Guidelines & Policies

Please refer to the below guidelines and policies before bringing your pet in for a surgical procedure.

24 Hr. Patient Care

Our patients are monitored 24-hours a day by our highly qualified staff members. You will be notified immediately of any changes in your pet’s condition.

Personal Items

During your pet’s stay, we will do everything possible to ensure your pet is comfortable. We will always provide safe and comfortable bedding so each pet has a soft place to lie down. You are more than welcome to leave a special blanket or toy, but we cannot guarantee these items will not be misplaced. Surgery patients can often become nauseous with the medications used to induce anesthesia and the personal items may be returned to you soiled. For this reason, we ask that you do not leave any personal item that would have significant sentimental or monetary value.

Communication & Patient Updates

We understand it is difficult to be away from your pet while he/she is here for surgery. Your pet’s health and safety are very important to us. We will make sure that your pet is comfortable during his/her stay and if any complications do arise, you will be notified immediately. Specific surgery times cannot be guaranteed as there may be emergencies or critical cases that may take precedence. Once your pet is out of surgery and awake in recovery, a technician or doctor will call you with an update. At this time, we can give you an estimated time for dismissal.

Dropoff

If you drop off your pet you should be here no later than 6:00 pm. Please do not arrive for dropoff between 1:00pm and 2:00pm, as we will be closed for lunch during this hour. No pets are to be dropped off prior to 8:00am without prior arrangement with the Shawnee Animal Clinic staff. Saturday drop off is 8:00am-1:00pm, and 2:00pm-4:00pm. We are closed for lunch from 1:00pm-2:00pm on Saturdays.

We require at least one person, family member or friend, to be appointed for receiving information regarding your pet while in our care.

Discharge

All pets will be discharged at the doctor’s discretion. Home care is crucial for proper healing. When your pet is discharged, you will be given verbal and written care instructions for their aftercare. Dismissal times are scheduled between the hours of 2pm and 5pm.
